The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980[1] and now vested in him[2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf. 1.This scheme may be cited as the M6 Motorway (Carlisle to Guards Mill Section) and Connecting Roads Scheme 2006 and shall come into force on 21st April 2006. 2.In this Scheme: (1) All measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway: (2)
(ii) "connecting road" means a special road along a route described in Schedule 2 to this Scheme; (iii) "the plan" means the plan folio, containing the site plan numbered HA16/MP/003 marked "The M6 Motorway (Carlisle to Guards Mill Section) and Connecting Roads Scheme 2006", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at ODPM-DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA; and (iii) "the special roads" means the Motorway and each connecting road. 3.The Secretary of State is authorised to provide the special roads for the exclusive use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980. There are two sections of motorway on the route between Carlisle and Guards Mill. 1.A section of motorway situated over the West Coast Main Line Railway at Mossband, 946 metres in length, starting at a point marked "A" on the plan and finishing at a point marked "B". 2.A section of motorway situated over the River Esk adjacent to Metal Bridge, 180 metres in length, lying between points "C" and "D" marked on the plan. 1.A 105-metre length of connecting road onto the northbound carriageway from the new all-purpose route marked "1" on the plan. 2.A 20-metre length of connecting road from the motorway to the southbound service area, marked "2" on the plan. 3.An 18-metre length of connecting road from the southbound service area to the motorway, marked "3" on the plan. 4.A 38-metre length of connecting road from the northbound service area to the motorway, marked "4" on the plan. 5.A 28-metre length of connecting road from the motorway to the northbound service area, marked "5" on the plan.
