The Burma (Sale, Supply and Export of Goods) (Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2003

The Secretary of State, being a Minister designated[1], for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972[2] in relation to measures relating to the interruption or reduction in part or completely, of economic relations with one or more countries which are not Member States, in exercise of powers conferred on her by that section, hereby makes the following Regulations.

    1. - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Burma (Sale, Supply and Export of Goods) (Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 and shall come into force on 17th November 2003.

    (2) In these Regulations "the principal Regulations" mean the Burma (Sale, Supply and Export of Goods) (Penalties) Regulations 2000[3].

    2. - (1) The principal Regulations shall be amended as follows.

    (2) In regulation 2(a), after the words "Article 1", there shall be inserted the words "or Article 1a".

    (3) In regulation 2(b), after the words "Article 1", there shall be inserted the words "or Article 1a".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulation)


The Burma (Sale, Supply and Export of Goods) (Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 make two changes to the principal Regulations. These changes reflect amendments to Council Regulation (EC) No 1081/2000 on Burma sanctions, by Council Regulation (EC) No 1211/2003:

    (a) Article 2(2) makes it an offence to contravene the prohibition in Regulation 1a, which relates to military and para-military technical assistance and training;

    (b) Article 2(3) extends the scope of the prohibition on exports to Regulation 1a.
