A. K. Galloway Clerk of the Privy Council (This note is not part of the Order) This Order declares the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States and the Arab Republic of Egypt, signed on 25th June 2001, to be a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972. The Agreement provides a framework for regular political dialogue between the parties, will establish a free trade area over a transitional period; and contains provisions concerning, inter alia, the right of establishment and supply of services, the movement of capital, competition policy and economic, social and cultural co-operation. The principal effect of declaring this Agreement to be a Community Treaty as so defined is to bring into play, in relation to it, the provisions of section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 which provide for the implementation of treaties so specified.
