The National Assembly for Wales makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred upon the Secretary of State by sections 484, 489 and 569(4) of the Education Act 1996[1] and now vested in the National Assembly[2]. Name, commencement and application 1. - (1) These Regulations are called the Education (Assembly Learning Grant Scheme) (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 15th November 2002. (2) These Regulations apply in relation to local education authorities in Wales. Amendment of Regulations 2.In the Education (Assembly Learning Grant Scheme) (Wales) Regulations 2002[3], for the Schedule substitute - 1.The making of post-compulsory education awards known as Assembly Learning Grants under the Local Education Authority (Post-Compulsory Education Awards) (Wales) Regulations 2002[4] to persons -
(b) who meet the other conditions (if any) of eligibility for that Scheme, for the purpose referred to in paragraph 2.
(This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Education (Assembly Learning Grant Scheme) (Wales) Regulations 2002 by substituting a new Schedule. The new Schedule clarifies that the intention of the Assembly Learning Grant Scheme is to enable those with limited financial resources to undertake courses of further or higher education by providing financial assistance in or towards the cost of books, equipment, travel or childcare incurred in connection with attending such a course.
