The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 80 of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000[1] hereby makes the following Order: 1.This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 (Commencement No. 9) Order 2002. 2.Section 57 of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000[2] (testing persons in police detention) shall come into force on 20th May 2002 within the following police areas[3] only:
(ii) Devon and Cornwall; (iii) Lancashire; (iv) Merseyside; (v) South Yorkshire; and (vi) North Wales.
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order applies to England and Wales. It brings into force section 57 of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 (drug testing persons in police detention) within certain police areas. The provision has already been commenced in the police areas of Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and the metropolitan police district by virtue of S.I. 2001/2232. (This note is not part of the Order) The following provisions of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 have been brought into force by commencement order made before the date of this Order.
