In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 485, 489 and 569(5) of the Education Act 1996[1], the Secretary of State for Education and Skills hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation, commencement and application 1. - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Grant) (Financial Support for Students) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 1st September 2001. (2) These Regulations apply only in relation to England. Interpretation 2.In these Regulations -
Grants to relevant institutions (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations come into force on 1st September 2001. They authorise the Secretary of State to pay grant to specified further education institutions in respect of the provision of financial support to students in order to facilitate their access to, or continued attendance at, prescribed courses of higher education at such institutions (regulation 3). The payment of grant is dependent on the fulfilment of such further conditions as may be determined by the Secretary of State (regulation 4). Notes: [1] 1996 c. 56.
