The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[1] and now vested in him[2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf: - 1.This Order may be cited as the A6 Trunk Road (Bedford to Luton) (Detrunking) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 29th June 2001. 2.In this Order -
(ii) "the trunk road" means the A6 Trunk Road. 3.The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies Bedfordshire County Council that they will become the highway authority responsible for that length of road within their county boundary. The length of the A6 trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between the A6/A5141 Shakespeare Road Roundabout in the Borough of Bedford in the County of Bedfordshire and the Luton Unitary Authority Boundary in the Parish of Streatley in the District of South Bedfordshire in the County of Bedfordshire and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan folio numbered HA10/PS/266 marked "The A6 Trunk Road (Bedford to Luton) (Detrunking) Order 2001" and signed by authority of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and deposited at DETR Records, Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards On Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA.
