The Police Act 1997 (Commencement No. 7) Order 2001


 Made16th March 2001 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 135 of the Police Act 1997[1], hereby makes the following Order:

    1. - (1) This Order may be cited as the Police Act 1997 (Commencement No. 7) Order 2001.

    (2) This Order extends to England and Wales.

    2. - (1) Sections 120(3), 122(1) and (2) and 125 of the Police Act 1997 shall come into force on 19th March 2001.

    (2) Section 120(1), (2) and (4) to (7) of the Police Act 1997 shall come into force on 1st May 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order, which extends to England and Wales, brings into force the following provisions of the Police Act 1997:

Section 120 (which relates to the register to be maintained by the Secretary of State for the purposes of Part V of that Act);

Section 122(1) and (2) (which relates to the code of practice to be published in connection with the use of information provided to registered persons); and

Section 125 (which relates to regulations made under Part V of the 1997 Act).

Sections 120(3) (power to make regulations about the maintenance of the register), 122(1) and (2) and 125 are brought into force on 19th March 2001 and the remaining provisions of section 120 are brought into force on 1st May 2001.
