The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 96(10) of the Transport Act 1968[1] ("the Act") and now vested in him[2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 101(6) of the Act, hereby makes the following Regulations: - 1.These Regulations may be cited as the Drivers' Hours (Goods Vehicles) (Milk Collection) (Temporary Exemption) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 6th March 2001. 2.In relation to the driver of any goods vehicle engaged in the collection and transportation of milk, who spends time driving or on duty during any working day to meet the special needs occasioned by the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Great Britain, or the effects or consequences of such outbreak, the Act shall have effect as if in section 96(3)(a) for the reference to "eleven hours" there were substituted "thirteen hours". Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions Larry Whitty Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions 5th March 2001 (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations extend the permissible maximum working day of a driver engaged in the collection and transportation of milk to meet the special needs occasioned by the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Great Britain, or the effects or consequences of such outbreak. The working day of a driver, as set out in section 96(3)(a) of the Transport Act 1968, is extended from a maximum of eleven to thirteen hours.
