The Secretary of State for Education and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 8(1) and (2) and 35(1) of the Jobseekers Act 1995[1], and after agreement by the Social Security Advisory Committee that proposals in respect of these Regulations need not be referred to it[2], hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation and commencement 1.These Regulations may be cited as the Jobseeker's Allowance (Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 11th September 2000. Amendment of the Jobseeker's Allowance Regulations 2. - (1) The Jobseeker's Allowance Regulations 1996[3] shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation. (2) For regulation 23 (attendance) there shall be substituted the following regulation -
(3) In regulation 24(8) and (10) (provision of information and evidence) for the word "notice" there shall be substituted the word "notification". (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Jobseeker's Allowance Regulations 1996 (S.I. 1996/207). In particular, they remove the requirement that an employment officer must specify in writing the place and time at which a claimant of a jobseeker's allowance may be required to attend. The regulations provide that a claimant may be summoned by telephone or by electronic means, as well as by a written summons.
