The Angola (United Nations Sanctions) (Channel Islands) (Amendment) Order 2000

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas under Article 41 of the Charter of the United Nations the Security Council of the United Nations has, by a resolution adopted on 15th September 1993, called upon Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and all other States to apply certain measures to give effect to a decision of that Council in relation to Angola:

    Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 1 of the United Nations Act 1946[1], is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: - 

Citation, commencement, operation and extent
    1. - (1) This Order may be cited as the Angola (United Nations Sanctions) (Channel Islands) (Amendment) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 14th July 2000.

    (2) In this Order "the Order" means the Angola (United Nations Sanctions) (Channel Islands) Order 1993[2].

    (3) This Order shall extend to the Channel Islands so as to be law, respectively, in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and in the Bailiwick of Jersey only.

    2. Article 3 of the Order shall be amended as follows - 

    (a) in paragraph (1)(ii), after the words "agree to supply or deliver" there shall be inserted - 

          " ; or

      (iii) do any act calculated to promote the supply or delivery of";

    (b) in paragraph (2) after the reference to "(1)(ii)" there shall be inserted "or (iii)".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


This Order, made under the United Nations Act 1946, amends the restrictions imposed by the Angola (United Nations Sanctions) (Channel Islands) Order 1993. The restrictions are imposed pursuant to a decision of the Security Council of the United Nations in its resolution 864 of 15th September 1993. The amendment made by this Order restricts acts calculated to promote the supply or delivery of arms and related matériel or petroleum or petroleum products to any person in Angola.
