A.K. Galloway Clerk of the Privy Council (This note is not part of the Order) This Order declares the Euro-Mediterranean Agreement establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, signed on 24th November 1997, to be a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972. The Agreement establishes an Association with the aims of providing an appropriate framework for political dialogue between the parties; establishing the conditions for the progressive liberalization of trade in goods, services and capital; fostering the development of balanced economic and social relations between the Parties; improving living and employment conditions, and enhancing productivity and financial stability; encouraging regional cooperation with a view to the consolidation of peaceful co-existence and economic and political stability. The principal effect of declaring this Agreement to be a Community Treaty as so defined is to bring into play, in relation to it, the provisions of section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 which provide for the implementation of treaties so specified.
