The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 1, 8, 37(1), 38(1), 39 and 72 of the Animal Health Act 1981[1], and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, make the following Order: Title and commencement 1.This Order may be cited as the Welfare of Animals (Transport) (Amendment) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st July 1999. Amendment of the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 1997 2.After article 21 of the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 1997[2] the following article shall be inserted-
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order amends the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/1480 as amended by S.I. 1998/2537). It makes provision for the enforcement of Council Regulation (EC) No. 411/98 ("the Regulation") on additional animal protection standards applicable to road vehicles used for the carriage of livestock on journeys exceeding eight hours (OJ No. L52, 21.2.98, p. 8). The Order makes it an offence against the Animal Health Act 1981 for any person to use a road vehicle for the transportation of animals in contravention of the Regulation. Notes: [1] 1981 c. 22.
