The Criminal Justice Act 1993 (Commencement No. 11) Order 1999

In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 78(3) and (4) of the Criminal Justice Act 1993[1], the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

    1.This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice Act 1993 (Commencement No. 11) Order 1999.

    2.Section 5(3), (4) and (5) of the Criminal Justice Act 1993[2] shall come into force on 1st June 1999.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order rectifies an omission in the Criminal Justice Act 1993 (Commencement No. 10) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/1189), by bringing into force the remaining provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 1993 extending the jurisdiction of courts in England and Wales in relation to certain offences of dishonesty and blackmail on 1st June 1999. By virtue of section 78(5) of the Act, nothing in any of those provisions applies to any act, omission or other event occurring before that date.

[2] Section 5(1) of the 1993 Act was repealed, and section 6(1) amended, by the Criminal Justice (Conspiracy and Terrorism) Act 1998 (c. 40), Schedule 1, paragraph 7. Section 5(2) comes into force on 1st June 1999 by virtue of the Criminal Justice Act 1993 (Commencement No. 10) Order 1999.back
