EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Legal Services Ombudsman has jurisdiction to investigate allegations about the manner in which a complaint made to a professional body has been dealt with by that body. Part I of the Schedule to the Legal Services Ombudsman (Jurisdiction) Order 1990 lists the professional bodies over which the Legal Services Ombudsman has jurisdiction and Part II of the Schedule lists the tribunals over which the Ombudsman does not have jurisdiction.

This Order amends Part I of the Schedule to add the Institute of Legal Executives and amends Part II of the Schedule to add their Disciplinary Tribunal. These amendments are necessary as a result of the Institute of Legal Executives Order (S.I. 1998/1077), which authorises that body to grant rights of audience before a court to its members under section 27 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990.
