HOUSING, SCOTLAND

The Housing Support Grant (Scotland) Variation Order 1998

	Made	17th March 1998
	Coming into force	18th March 1998

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 193(4) and (5) of the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf-

(i) after consultation with such associations of local authorities as appear to him to be concerned;

(ii) since it appears to him that after the aggregate amount mentioned in section 191(2)(a) of that Act was estimated for the year 1997-98 the eligible expenditure of local authorities for that year has been substantially increased by means of changes which have taken place in the level of the matters specified in section 191(3)(b) of that Act, and that inadequate account was taken of those changes when that aggregate amount was estimated; and

(iii) with the consent of the Treasury,



hereby makes the following Order, a draft of which has been approved by the House of Commons:

Citation and commencement
    1.This Order may be cited as the Housing Support Grant (Scotland) Variation Order 1998 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

Variation of Housing Support Grant (Scotland) Order 1997
    2.In the Housing Support Grant (Scotland) Order 1997[2]-



(a) in article 2 (aggregate amount of housing support grants for 1997-98) for "£15,249,094" there shall be substituted "£15,561,071";

(b) in article 3(2) (general portion) for "£11,930,678" there shall be substituted "£12,229,792"; and

(c) in article 3(3) (hostel portion) for "£3,318,416" there shall be substituted "£3,331,279".

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order varies the Housing Support Grant (Scotland) Order 1997 by increasing the aggregate amount of housing support grant originally fixed for the year 1997-98 and both its general and hostel portions. The increases are as follows:-
