Whereas - (1) in pursuance of section 5 of the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998[1] ("the 1998 Act") the Parades Commission for Northern Ireland ("the Commission") is required to issue a set of guidelines ("the guidelines") as to the exercise of its functions under section 7 of the 1998 Act; (2) in pursuance of paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the 1998 Act, the Commission has prepared a draft of the guidelines and submitted the draft to the Secretary of State; (3) in pursuance of paragraph 3 of Schedule 2 to the 1998 Act the Commission has sent the draft guidelines to the Secretary of State who has laid the draft before each House of Parliament: And whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament: Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by paragraph 4 of Schedule 2 to the 1998 Act, hereby orders as follows: Citation and commencement 1.This Order may be cited as the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 (Guidelines) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 3rd March 1998. Guidelines 2.The guidelines laid in draft before Parliament on 23rd February 1998 as to the exercise by the Commission of its functions under section 7 of the 1998 Act shall come into operation on 3rd March 1998. Marjorie Mowlam One of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State Northern Ireland Office 2nd March 1998 (This note is not part of the Order) This Order appoints 3rd March 1998 as the date on which the set of guidelines ("the guidelines") issued by the Parades Commission for Northern Ireland ("the Commission") under section 5 of the Public Processions (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 ("the 1998 Act") will come into operation. The guidelines relate to the exercise by the Commission of its functions under section 7 of the 1998 Act (power to impose conditions on public processions). The guidelines are published by the Commission and copies may be obtained from the Commission at 12th Floor, Windsor House, 6-12 Bedford Street, Belfast BT2 7EL.
