The Coypus (Special Licence) (Fees) Regulations 1997

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 2(c) of the Destructive Imported Animals Act 1932[1], as applied in relation to coypus by the Coypus (Prohibition on Keeping) Order 1987[2], and now vested in them[3], and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, and with the approval of the Treasury, hereby make the following Regulations:

Title and commencement
    1.These Regulations may be cited as the Coypus (Special Licence) (Fees) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 1st January 1998.

Interpretation
    2.In these Regulations - 

    (a) "the Act" means the Destructive Imported Animals Act 1932; and

    (b) "a special licence" means a special licence granted in accordance with section 8 of the Act authorising the keeping of coypus.

Special licence fees
    3.On the granting of a special licence there shall be paid to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland or the Secretary of State for Wales, as the case may be, the following fee - 

    (a) in England and Wales, Ј185; and

    (b) in Scotland, Ј60.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations prescribe the fee to be charged in respect of the grant of a special licence under section 8 of the Destructive Imported Animals Act 1932 ("the Act") authorising the licensee to keep coypus for exhibition, purposes of scientific research or other exceptional purposes. The fee prescribed in England and Wales is Ј185, and in Scotland Ј60. The keeping of coypus otherwise than in accordance with a licence granted under section 8 of the Act is prohibited by the Coypus (Prohibition on Keeping) Order 1987 (S.I. 1987/2195).

A regulatory appraisal has been prepared and has been deposited in the library of each House of Parliament.
