The Antarctic Act 1994 (Commencement) (No. 2) Order 1997

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 35 of the Antarctic Act 1994[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation
    1.This Order may be cited as the Antarctic Act 1994 (Commencement) (No. 2) Order 1997.

Commencement of Section 6 of the Antarctic Act 1994
    2.Section 6 of the Antarctic Act 1994 shall come into force on 1st October 1997.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order brings into force on 1st October 1997 section 6 of the Antarctic Act 1994. The section prohibits mineral resource activities in Antarctica by United Kingdom nationals except for certain limited purposes.

With the exception of sections 3 and 4, the Act has been progressively brought into force by commencement orders made in 1995 (S.I. No. 2748), 1996 (S.I. No. 2666) and 1997 (S.I. No. 1411).
