Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 315(2) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995[1], is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: - Citation and commencement 1.This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Salvage Convention) (Jersey) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 22nd August 1997. Extension to Jersey of provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 2.Sections 224 and 255 of, and Schedule 11 to, the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 shall extend to the Bailiwick of Jersey subject to the exceptions, adaptations and modifications set out in the Schedule to this Order. 3.Nothing in this Order shall affect any rights or liabilities arising out of any salvage operations started or other acts done before the coming into force of this Order. 4.In the Schedule to this Order, "Jersey" means the Bailiwick of Jersey. (b) omit subsections (2) and (3). 3.In Part II of Schedule 11 -
(b) "Jersey waters" means the sea or other waters within the seaward limits of the territorial sea of Jersey."; (b) omit paragraph 2; (This note is not part of the Order) This Order extends to the Bailiwick of Jersey those provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 which give effect in the United Kingdom to the International Convention on Salvage 1989.
