The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of the power conferred by section 7(2) of the Community Care (Direct Payments) Act 1996[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order: - Citation 1.This Order may be cited as the Community Care (Direct Payments) Act 1996 (Commencement) Order 1997. Day appointed 2.1st April 1997 is the day appointed for the coming into force of sections 1 to 5 and 7 of the Community Care (Direct Payments) Act 1996. Stephen Dorrell One of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State 10th March 1997 (This note is not part of the Order) This Order brings into force on 1st April 1997 sections 1 to 5 and 7 of the Community Care (Direct Payments) Act 1996 ("the Act"). The Act enables local authorities responsible for providing (or arranging the provision of) community care services to make payments to persons in respect of their securing the provision of such services.
