IMMIGRATION

The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 (Commencement No. 3 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996

Made	25th November 1996

In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 13(3) and (4) of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996^[1], the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

    1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 (Commencement No. 3 and Transitional Provisions) Order 1996.

    (2)  In this Order "the Act" means the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996.

    2.—(1)  Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3) below, section 8 of the Act shall come into force on 27th January 1997.

    (2)  Section 8 of the Act shall not apply to employment which began before 27th January 1997.

    (3)  For the purpose only of making orders under subsections (1) and (2), section 8 of the Act shall come into force on 1st December 1996.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 27th January 1997 section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, which contains restrictions on the employment of persons subject to immigration control. The Order provides that section 8 shall not apply to employment which began before that date. For the purpose only of making Orders, section 8 comes into force on 1st December 1996.
