The M4 Motorway (Severn Bridge) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1995

    The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984[1]and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 134(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the M4 Motorway (Severn Bridge) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1995 and shall come into force on 1st October 1995.
    Interpretation
        2.    In these Regulations "motorway" has the meaning given in regulation 3(1) of the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982[2].
    Speed limit
        3.    No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 40 miles per hour on a carriageway of the length of motorway specified in the Schedule to these Regulations at any time when—
       (a) there is placed at the beginning of that carriageway a traffic sign of the size, colour and type shown in the diagram numbered 670 in Schedule 2 to the Traffic Signs Regulations 1994[3]; and
       (b) that sign is directed at traffic intending to proceed along that carriageway.
