In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 301(6) of, and paragraphs 1 and 4 of Schedule 4 to, the Education Act 1993^[1], the Secretary of State for Education, as respects England, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, hereby make the following Regulations:

PART I
GENERAL

Citation and commencement
    1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Acquisition of Grant- maintained Status) (Transitional Functions) Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 1st January 1994.

Interpretation
    2.    In these Regulations—

"the 1993 Act" means the Education Act 1993; and

"new governing body" shall be interpreted in accordance with section 34(2) of the 1993 Act.
