The Nuclear Installations (Application of Security Provisions) Order 1993

    Whereas the Secretary of State has granted a permit to Urenco (Capenhurst) Limited under section 2(1) of the Nuclear Installations Act 1965[1] authorising the use of its site at Capenhurst in the County of Cheshire for the treatment of uranium such as to increase the proportion of the isotope 235 contained therein for purposes other than, or not limited to, research and development;
    Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of his powers under section 2(1B) of the Nuclear Installations Act 1965[2] and all other powers in that behalf enabling him, hereby orders as follows:
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Nuclear Installations (Application of Security Provisions) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 24th March 1993.
        2.    The provisions set out in Schedule 1 to the Nuclear Installations Act 1965[3] shall have effect in relation to Urenco (Capenhurst) Limited.

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order applies to Urenco (Capenhurst) Limited the security provisions set out in Schedule 1 to the Nuclear Installations Act 1965, as amended.

[2] Section 2(1B) was inserted by the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1971, section 17(1).

[3] A new Schedule 1 was inserted, and the original Schedule to the 1965 Act designated "Schedule 2", by the Atomic Energy Authority Act 1971, section 17(6), Schedule. In Schedule 1, paragraph 2 was repealed by the Official Secrets Act 1989 (c. 6), section 16(4), Schedule 2. Paragraph 3(2)(bb) was inserted by the Nuclear Safeguards and Electricity (Finance) Act 1978 (c. 25), section 2(3)(b). Paragraph 3(2)(cc) was inserted by the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 etc (Repeals and Modifications) Regulations 1974, (S.I. 1974/2056), regulation 2(1)(b), Schedule 2, paragraph 7. Paragraph 4(1) was substituted and paragraph 4(2) was repealed by the Ministry of Defence Police Act 1987 (c. 4), section 7(4). Paragraph 4(3) was added by the Atomic Energy Authority (Special Constables) Act 1976 (c. 23), section 2(1).
