The Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1991

    The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 7(1)(a) of the Teaching Council (Scotland) Act 1965[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, having afforded to the General Teaching Council for Scotland, in accordance with section 7(5) of that Act[2], an opportunity of considering a draft of the following Regulations and no representations having been made by them, and having caused a draft of the Regulations to be published and having sent a copy thereof to every education authority in accordance with section 7(8A) of that Act[3] and no representations having been made by them or by any person interested, hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1991 and shall come into force on 20th January 1992.
    Amendment of the Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Regulations 1967
        2.—(1)  The Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Regulations 1967[4] shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation.

        (2)  In regulation 5 (conditions for the award of a teaching qualification) in sub-paragraph (1) for the words "as set out in schedule 1" there shall be substituted the words "determined by the Secretary of State after consultation with the Council".

        (3)  Schedule 1 (requirements for admission to courses) shall be revoked.
    Revocations
        3.    The Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1969[5], the Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1971[6] and the Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1973[7] are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations amend the Teachers (Education, Training and Registration) (Scotland) Regulations 1967 to provide that the requirements for admission to a course leading to a teaching qualification shall be determined by the Secretary of State after consultation with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, instead of being prescribed in the Regulations themselves. Previous amendment Regulations dealing with the prescription of requirements are also revoked.
