The A23 Trunk Road (Pease Pottage Handcross Trunk Road andSlip Road) Order 1991

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise ofpowers conferred by section 10 of the Highways Act 1980[1], and now vested in him[2], and of all other enabling powers: 1. The new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to constructalong the routes described in the schedule to this Order shall becometrunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force. 2. The centre line of each of the new trunk roads is indicated by aheavy black line on the deposited plan. 3. In this Order
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of therelevant highway;
(2) (i) "the deposited plan" means the plan numbered A23/3A/65/2/1, marked"The A23 Trunk Road (Pease Pottage Handcross Trunk Road andSlip Road) Order 1991" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at theDepartment of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; (ii) "the new trunk roads" means the highways mentioned in article 1 of thisOrder and"a new trunk road" means one of those highways; (iii) "the Trunk Road" means the London Brighton Trunk Road (A23).
4. This Order shall come into force on 24th June 1991 and may be citedas the A23 Trunk Road (Pease Pottage Handcross Trunk Road andSlip Road) Order 1991. Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport
