CONTINENTAL SHELF

The Continental Shelf (Designation of Areas) Order 1989

Made19th December 1989

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 19th day of December 1989

Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

    Whereas by the Continental Shelf (Designation of Areas) Orders 1964 to 1987[1] certain areas are designated as areas within which the rights of the United Kingdom with respect to the sea bed and subsoil and their natural resources may be exercised;
    And whereas it is expedient that further such areas should be so designated;
    And whereas it is necessary in order to give effect to the Agreement[2] signed on the 7th day of November 1988 by the Governments of the United Kingdom and of the Republic of Ireland to amend the Continental Shelf (Designation of Additional Areas) Order 1971[3] and the Continental Shelf (Designation of Additional Areas) Order 1974[4];
    Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 1(7) of the Continental Shelf Act 1964[5] and section 3 of the Petroleum Royalties (Relief) and Continental Shelf Act 1989[6] and of all B other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Continental Shelf (Designation of Areas) Order 1989.

        (2)  This Order and the Orders recited in the preamble to this Order may be cited together as the Continental Shelf (Designation of Areas) Orders 1964 to 1989.
        2.    The areas defined in Schedule 1 to this Order are hereby designated as areas within which the rights of the United Kingdom outside territorial waters with respect to the sea bed and subsoil and their natural resources are exercisable.
        3.    The Schedule to the Continental Shelf (Designation of Additional Areas) Order 1971 shall have effect with the omission from area (3) as defined therein of the area defined in Schedule 2 to this Order.
        4.    The Schedule to the Continental Shelf (Designation of Additional Areas) Order 1974 shall have effect with the omission from the area defined therein of the areas defined in Schedule 3 to this Order.
