The Public Health (Notification of Infectious Diseases) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1989

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4(1) of the Infectious Disease (Notification) Act 1889( [1]) and section 1(1)(a) of the Public Health (Scotland) Act 1945( [2]), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation, commencement and interpretation
1.(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Public Health (Notification of Infectious Diseases) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 1st January 1990.
(2) In these Regulations "the principal Regulations" means the Public Health (Notification of Infectious Diseases) (Scotland) Regulations 1988( [3]).
Amendment of the principal Regulations
2. The principal Regulations shall be amended as follows: (a) in Part I of Schedule 1 (diseases notifiable by virtue of these Regulations), after "Leptospirosis" there shall be inserted "Lyme Disease" and after "Tetanus" there shall be inserted "Toxoplasmosis" ;
(b) in Schedule 2 (notification of infectious disease), after "Leptospirosis" there shall be inserted "Lyme Disease" and after "Tetanus" there shall be inserted "Toxoplasmosis" .

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)These Regulations amend the Public Health (Notification of Infectious Diseases) (Scotland) Regulations 1988 by adding Lyme Disease and Toxoplasmosis to the list of infectious diseases which are notifiable in terms of the 1988 Regulations.
