The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the power conferred upon Her by section 37(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981[1], is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: 1. This Order may be cited as the British Nationality (Pakistan) Order 1989 and shall come into force on the date upon which Pakistan again becomes a member of the Commonwealth, which date will be notified in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes. 2. The British Nationality Act 1981 shall have effect as if, in Schedule 3 to that Act (countries whose citizens are Commonwealth citizens), under the word "Nigeria" there were inserted the word "Pakistan".

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)This Order adds Pakistan to Schedule 3 to the British Nationality Act 1981 with the result that citizens of Pakistan shall have the status of Commonwealth
