The Carmarthen-Llandeilo Trunk Road A40 (Llandeilo Northern By-pass) Order 1989

Coming into force31st March 1989

    The Secretary of State for Wales makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[1] and of all other enabling powers:-
        1.    The new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct along the routes described in Schedule 1 to this Order shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into force.
        2.    The centre line of the new trunk roads are indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.
        3.    The lengths of trunk road described in Schedule 2 to this Order, and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk roads, and shall be classified as unclassified (between points "A" and "B" on the deposited plan) and classified road (between points "C" and "D" on the deposited plan) as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the County Council of Dyfed that the new trunk roads are open for through traffic.
        4.    In this Order:-

    All measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway.
       (i) "the deposited plan" means the plan numbered HA10/2 W064 marked "The Carmarthen-Llandeilo Trunk Road A40 (Llandeilo Northern By-pass) Order 1989", signed by authority of the Secretary of State, and deposited at the Welsh Office Repository, Curran Embankment, Cardiff.
       (ii) "the new trunk roads" means the highways mentioned in article 1 of this Order.
       (iii) "the trunk road" means the Carmarthen-Llandeilo Trunk Road (A40).
       (iv) "classified road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads, but is classified for the purpose of every enactment or instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads.
        5.    The Llandeilo-Carmarthen Trunk road (Penrock Bends Diversion) Order 1979[2] is hereby revoked except for that length of new Trunk Road mentioned in article 1 of that Order and described in Schedule 1 to that Order, starting at a point about 140 metres east of Woodlands House and extending in a generally easterly direction for about 390 metres to a point 200 metres south-east of the east side of King's Lodge.
        6.    This Order shall come into force on 31st March 1989 and may be cited as the Carmarthen-Llandeilo Trunk Road A40 (Llandeilo Northern By-pass) Order 1989.
