The Consumer Protection Act 1987 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1988

    Whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament pursuant to section 50(3) of the Consumer Protection Act 1987[1]:
    Now, therefore, the Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 50(2) of the said Act of 1987 hereby makes the following Order:—
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (Commencement No. 2) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 31st December 1988.
        2.    In this Order "the 1987 Act" means the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
        3.    
       (a) Section 48(2)(a) of the 1987 Act (which provides that the Trade Descriptions Act 1972[2] shall cease to have effect);
       (b) Section 48(3) of the 1987 Act insofar as it gives effect to the repeal in Schedule 5 to the 1987 Act of the Trade Descriptions Act 1972; and
       (c) the entry in Schedule 5 to the 1987 Act relating to the Trade Descriptions Act 1972
    shall come into force on 31st December 1988.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    This Order brings into force on 31st December 1988 the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 under which the Trade Descriptions Act 1972 (which required certain names and marks applied to imported goods to be accompanied by an indication of origin) is repealed.
    The previous Commencement Order was the Consumer Protection Act 1987 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1987 (S.I. 1987/1680). The main provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 1987 not brought into force by this Order and the earlier Commencement Order are those of Part III (misleading price indications).
