The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 10(2) and (3) of the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967[1], is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: 1.(1) This Order may be cited as the Antarctic Treaty (Agreed Measures) Order 1988.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 22nd April 1988.
2. Article VIII of the Agreed Measures, set out in Schedule 2 to the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967, is amended by replacing the full stop at the end of paragraph 2(b) with a semicolon, and adding a new subparagraph as follows:"(c) entry by their nationals, except in accordance with a permit issued under Article VI or under paragraph 2(a) of the present Article or in accordance with a permit issued for some other compelling scientific purpose."
3. Annex C to the Agreed Measures, set out in Schedule 2 to the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967, is amended by inserting in subparagraph (c), after the word "plants", the words "including viruses, bacteria, yeasts and fungi".

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)This Order amends the Agreed Measures for the Conservation of Antarctic Fauna and Flora, as set out in Schedule 2 to the Antarctic Treaty Act 1967, in accordance with Recommendation VIII5, adopted at the Eighth Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting held at Oslo in 1975, and Recommendation VII5, adopted at the Seventh Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting held at Wellington in 1972.
